In the first part of 1 John 4, we're going to look at how to trust what we hear and to understand what comes from the Spirit of God and what comes from anywhere else. Things that come from the Spirit of God will last and can be trusted, but anything else will fade away.  A trust and a belief in Jesus because of his Holy Spirit leads to eternal life. It's a power that overcomes anything this world has to offer.  Remember, one of the purposes of 1 John was to remind believers of the reality of what they believe. The question is a familiar one: How can we know that we're loved by God?  1 John is a broken record of evidence of God's love from a witness to the life of Jesus. The author of 1 John frequently uses the phrase This is how we know... to begin reminding his audience of the promises of God through the realities of Jesus as savior.  He's writing to believers to remind them of the realities of God's love. We are able to know that we are deeply loved by God. We are witnesses to his love through the works of Jesus Christ, and we are called to receive and give that love. It's a quick look at an element of Galatians where Paul reminds his audience that God keeps his promises through the works of Christ alone, and nothing else should be added or subtracted from that reality. We had a windy and warm day for our lake service as we started 1 John 2 this week. We thank Otoniel Rodriguez for coming to the park and helping us with musical worship, and all of the campground who joined us for Sunday's worship service. As we look at the scripture this week, we see this metaphor of God being light expanded, and the invitation extended to follow Jesus, allowing him to be our advocate to the Father. When we do this, it allows the truth to shine on areas of our li ves that keep us from a closeness to God, from community with one another, and ultimately from joy...and it allows God to work in those areas and reconcile us into a right relationship with him and those around us. John is emphasizing the need for the believer to walk in the light of God, even when it exposes our sin. We love better when we don't have things to hide, and we can walk in a fuller joy with God when we are honest with ourselves. To follow along with the main text of scripture this week,...

This week we finish off the first chapter of 1 John. The author continues his emphasis on fellowship with other believers and with God, but adds the metaphor of God being light. A fellowship with this light, this holiness, this perfection is accessible to us through Jesus, who takes away our sin. How do you describe the eternal God in the flesh, Jesus? How do you explain to people the things you've seen, heard, touched when it's so important? We see John taking up that task in the introduction to 1 John 1 in this week's message. He was a witness. He loved Jesus. He was loved by Jesus. As Christians we will be known by our fruit. What happens when we get bumped? What falls from us? What spills out when the world around us presses in? We take a look at Luke 6, Matthew 11 & 12, Galatians 5 and Colossians 3 in this week's message, and stress the importance of being filled with the spirit and clothed by the gifts of Jesus. There is freedom in exchanging the fruit of this world to the fruit of the Spirit and the saving love of Jesus. This week we're covering chapter nine of Hebrews .  Hebrews 9 covers the reality that the old covenant required repeated sacrifices for sin, but did nothing to cleanse the heart and restore lasting confidence in salvation. It was only a shadow of the lasting salvation that Jesus offers. Jesus coming as the mediator and savior for his creation, restoring creation to the creator, completed his work through the cross and then the resurrection. We're into our fifth week in our series on the book of Hebrews, which means we are into chapter 5 .  This chapter begins some of the tougher portions of the New Testament, and we're going to see the author of Hebrews make comparisons of previous high priests with Jesus, as well as the warning for our need to grow in our faith.  If you want to connect with us, email us by clicking here .

 We're looking into Hebrews 3 this week.  There's going to be a lot of repetition throughout Hebrews 3 and 4, with the main theme being keeping our hearts soft to the voice and call of God so that we can enter into his rest, which is our home. We also see that God makes his home with us, which should cause our hearts to overflow with praise.  There are also warnings within the next two chapters about the consequences of disobedience and letting our hearts stray from God's commands and love. It might feel like an echo, but it's actually the love of repetition. The second chapter of Hebrews sounds a lot like the first: magnifying the holiness of Jesus, the love of Jesus, and the saving power of Jesus.  There's nothing more important than the saving love of Jesus Christ. The author is pleading with his audience to understand that. Our church is aching to understand that more. We hope that the love of Jesus is a reality in your life today. It's a common thing to make resolutions, especially around our faith, going into the new year. It's normal. We're not leaving a normal year, though, and the next year is picking up where the last one left off. So what's this mean for how we meet with God? What does this mean for our thoughts about him and what he thinks about us? We look at Psalm 42 this week, where the author (probably David) is away from his house of worship and giving his heart a reminder about the faithfulness of God and to trust in God for redemption of his circumstances. After Christmas, there’s often this exhale in the church. We made it. Another year is nearly wrapped up. All of the excitement and expectation has reached a payoff – whether it’s celebrating and remembering the birth of Jesus, or gathering with family, or giving and receiving gifts – there’s a certain sense of completion most years. This year has been different for a lot of us. We weren’t able to gather with our usual crowds of family and friends. Illness and employment and political drama may have caused us or loved ones anxiety. We can identify with the song O Holy Night when it calls the world “weary.” But, the weary world can rejoice. We have a savior. Help not only is on the way, but is here, and that’s what we celebrate this Christmas. Join us in reading Psalm 146 & 147 as we do what the psalmist says: Praise. We're already into the third week of Advent for the year, and this week we're talking about being blessed. In the book of Ephesians, and Paul is writing to the Ephesian church to remind them how blessed they are: That those who trust in Jesus share in every spiritual blessing that's been given to him, through him.  Our greatest blessing is that we are restored into right relationship with God as our Father so that we can glorify him with praise.  We're meeting online through the rest of this year, and we know that's not ideal, but it's just for a season. The season of Advent is a season of anticipating an arrival. For the prophet Jeremiah, it was a season of warning God's people of God's holiness (and their need to repent) and reminding God's people of a coming savior. We're also in a season of Advent right now. We eagerly anticipate a returning Jesus as we celebrate this season. Here's three things to notice as we look at today's scripture in this season: 1. God speaks to his people. 2. God warns his people because he loves his people. 3, God blesses and restores his people because he loves his people. Jesus is the proof of God's love for us. We made it. We're wrapping up our series in Acts with a message from Acts 28 this week. The focal point of this message is going to center around Paul appealing to people to turn towards God to be healed. The central warning in the message is to not grow complacent, or calloused, just hearing the message of grace without receiving and living the message of grace. May we all turn towards Jesus and truly hear him today.  COVID Update: We're most likely to be going online for the rest of this year for our Sunday services. Desperate times call for... Jesus.  Most of you reading this probably haven't been tossed around at sea for two weeks and then shipwrecked. If you have, then you can probably identify easier with Acts 27 instead of just picturing it like the rest of us.  We can often spot other people when they're in distress and desperate, but sometimes the church struggles to share when we need the very help and hope we profess to need.  Have you ever felt like the world is broken, your life is a mess, and that things aren't going to get better? Where do you turn and what do you do when you feel such despair? In today's message, we look at Acts 25, and Paul's life seems to be on repeat: Angry mob wants him dead, they drag him in front of a different judge or ruler with bogus charges, imprison him without being able to find any guilt in him, repeat as necessary.  One could imagine that this would get real old, real quick. How does Paul keep going? Because his hope isn't in this world. His hope is in a resurrected Jesus Christ. What can we learn from that, and how can we apply that in our lives today? Does it still hold up? What's in your pile? It may not be angry mobs or illegitimate trials on the way to Rome, but maybe it's shame, or hurt, or doubt, or debt...what if Jesus was big enough, and more importantly real enough to take your pile and make you clean again?
